I'm Charlene, your Principal. Here's how I got started:
I was a Student Nurse who worked p/t in a salon. As soon as I was introduced to Hair Extensions in 1988, I knew this was the career for me. So I left after my Sophomore year in college to pursue a career in hair. After graduation, no salons didn't want to hire me because hair extensions service is so rare- even living in Midtown Manhattan! I had no choice but to start my own business. Then the Internet started and I created a website on July 5, 2000. I got clients who wanted hair extensions but their hair was too thin or weak for extensions and so I lost them to hair replacement centers. Finally I took hair replacement classes and one of the hair loss I learned was "Trichotillomania". As soon as I advertised that I offer hair loss solutions, in 2004, I got a call from a Trichster who would change my life...
I was nervous before meeting her. She was very shy too. She wanted me to cover up her crown. I gently asked her; "hmmm...what are the chances of you pulling out the hairpiece?" She said she didn't know but she needed help asap. So I told her I'm willing to. Month after month, she would come back and month after month her hair grew. I couldn't believe it! It grew so long that I transitioned her to hair extensions and the need to pull subsides! I wanted to share my story and found Trich.org Soon the word got out. I would help a 16 year old girl stopping pulling (to this day, she is 5 years pull-free) and others cease pulling, etc... I asked Trich.org if they had any grants to help fund these treatments but heard nothing. I asked health insurance... nothing too.
Which is why I started a non-profit HelpMe2Stop.org based on the sufferers' pure needs. I don't want to be a non-profit that is raising money for research as I volunteer as well for the Breast Cancer communities and millions are being raised each year and still no "cure". I just want to raise money to GIVE HAIR, GROW HAIR, STOP/CEASE PULLING, CHANGE LIVES just like what TheSecretMane network of caring salons are doing now. I just want to help people "live for today, but hope for tomorrow" and to "live as if you'll die tomorrow; but dream as if you'll live forever" and "today is the day that counts, not yesterday but learn from yesterday, just live for today". That's all I ever wish for anyone, hair or without. ♥
Today I am training hair salons for free as long as they help my non-profit. What makes my procedure different is that unlike other hair replacement studios who may shave their customers' heads, I feel this just defeats the purpose. I learned from my clients 3 most important things they needed to have:
- That their hair must be natural looking since some of their husbands, boyfriends or parents do not know.
- It must strong enough so they can enjoy strenuous activities.
- They don't want to pull out their growing hair.
Since 2004, I've experimented with many glues, hairpieces, various techniques. After many trials and errors, I have finally discovered one that works and obtained a ® for TheSecretMane® proprietary process.
Early Life- My clients are always asking; "Why did you move out of New York?"
I grew up in Midtown Manhattan in the Westside. Growing up, I've always wanted a house. I was a single mom living in the big city and dreamt of having a house to grow a garden and seeing my kids hop on a school bus instead of the dangerous New York City Subways. I worked 2 jobs (don't ask) just for a house. Mayor Giuliani closed down my p/t jobs and with all the money I saved, I couldn't afford that dream beach house closer to NY, but I was able to afford a house 83 miles away~ in the Poconos. I bought it in 1999 for $92,000 a cute little ranch and I still have it to this day. Living in the country and being close to nature has inspired me to grow my "secret" garden and blossom my companies.
My daughter. She's my gardening partner. We grew a 43 pound pumpkin that Summer. It was bigger than her!
I am growing produce like Wheatgrass and Strawberries and enjoy making smoothies and natural beauty products.

We love animals too. I've installed a pond and frogs come by to visit every Summer. I don't know how they survive in the Winter! Sometimes they'll live in the pond all Winter just like the fishes.
