In a recent article by Bella Sugar, writes "Countless women use extensions to get a little boost in length and volume, but in reality, are these hairy additions causing all sorts of hairy situations?"
2 professionals were interviewed and unfortunately there were NO PHOTOS except for a borrowed photo by Thinkstock depicting proof that supports their claim. The article may scare women, but Hair Extensions does not have to be scary.
As a Hair, Health, Growth Expert who has a passion for hair extensions; I can testify that the answer is both "True and False" with ACTUAL CLIENT PHOTOS to support my claim.
Here are some smart, hair saving tips that will give you the Mane of your dreams without fear:
- When shopping for Hair Extensions, be sure to view before and after photos of actual slideshows. Like my examples here
- Make sure you start off with a small amount, like 25% coverage, prior to committing to 100% coverage. Wear them for a month and if you like them, go ahead and jump in.
- Be sure you prep your hair for at least a month prior to the installation. Prep your hair with hair strengthening shampoo, conditioner and use specially formulated hair vitamins. We use Hair Support in our salon. It's like giving your hair some "muscle" so it will be strong enough to support the weight of the hair extensions.
- When seeking a hair extension technician, be sure she/he is patient and shows interest in the health of your hair. Red flag signs are hair extensions applied sloppy, carelessly, bonds are too big, too long, too much keratin, strands are criss-crossed instead of in one direction.
- Be sure to brush your hair daily to prevent matting and tangling. While you are wearing hair extensions, your hair will experience shedding as hair naturally sheds about 150 hairs daily, so there will be hair that will be trapped inside the hair extensions. When you brush the loose hairs, they will not "kiss" each other and intertwine causing matting and tangling.
- Be sure to remove the hair extensions in 90 days to prevent hair pulling and damage.
Hair Extensions are essentially hair attached to your own hair. At TheSecretMane, when we feel a candidate is not suitable for hair extensions, we turn down the job and advice her to seek alternative options. We will care for your hair as if it were my own. TheSecretMane's philosophy is to help you grow your hair.
